Sliwin, earlier a capitol in Pommern, might be one of the two places today called Schlevin/Schlievin (south of Schwerin) or Schlessin/Schlesin (also south of Schwerin). The ancestors perhaps also lived in Schlieben south of Berlin.
Schlieffen, Schlieben, Sliwen and sometimes Sluben:
Perhaps it is true that von Schlieffen and von Schlieben have same origin, but they have quite different coat of arms.
Von Schlieffen lived mostly in Pommern, Mecklenburg and Hessen, and the coat of arms have on the shield a man in red cloths with a cap on the head, and on the helmet is the same figure. They got this coat of arms in 1444 from king Kristof of Denmark.
Von Schlieben had most of their estate in Marken, in Lausitz and in Preussen (Sachsen). Many members of the family were in the German order and in the Johanitterorder. Their coat of arms have on the shield a blue- and white-checked horizontal beam and on the helmet two gold elephant trunks. As von Schlieffen and Sliwen they erarly lived in Schlevin in the old province Slivin in Camin in Pommern, they probably came to this region by immigration. Not fare from this place is Dreissow, one early mentioned old possession, where until lately both families lived. Earlier they used to live in Kolberg (Pommern), where many of them was mayor in the city. In old documents (Urkunden) they are mentioned for the first time in 1110.
