The familie Scherf or Scharf, it is doubtful there is a connection to the family Scheruechen known already 1178 in Köln or the family Scherue by Rhein and Weser at the first part of this century. In Mecklenburg is known the knight Tydericus Scherphe 1227 by the count from Schwerin (1). His sons or grandsons settled in Pommern and Stralsund. In Stettin the knight Bolto Scerf (1259-91) and his son the knight Thidericus Scerf 1317. In Stralsund Thidericus Scerf 1263-93 and Johannes Scerf 1320 and Johannes the younger 1321, seated at Johanshagen, Conradshagen und Lassentin, and they were "Vasallen."

The spot Sceruestorp, Scharfstorf), today called Scharsdorf in Holstein, already 1224 ruled by the monastery Preetz, the family Scherf might have the name from this spot. In 1367 a clerical Hinricus Scherf is known in Holstein.
