The familiy Krakevitz, of wendisk origin, might descend from the noble wendish Krak or Craco, who had the house Craconis (perhaps Krakow by Tribsess south west of Stralsund) 1231 by the foundation of the monastery Neuen-Camp. Krakevitz mentioned in a collection of documents (Urkunde) from 1236-37 as witness and the progenitor there called Krakeuitz Krakos son (this Urkunde wrongly dated 1302) .
As progenitor Krakevitz first pointed out in 1302 with "Knappen" Johannes Krakeuitz, probably the same Johannes who signed the "Stralsunder Bundesbrief 5 Januar 1316". At the same time is mentioned Henneke Krakeuitz, probably a cousin, because in Pommern it is unusual to call brothers by the same name.
Also in this "Bundesbrief" is mentioned Tesmar Krakevitz (in the signet he call himself Tesmar Krake).
As others with wendish origin, the family going to Rügen from the mainland. They founded in Wittow the estate Krakevitz, now called Fährhof (already in 1505 called Crakevitzenhof). More importent became the family with Hans Krakevitz who from 1459 was bailiff for the duke (Herzoglichen Vogt) to Wolgast and Usedom, in 1480 "belehnt" with earlyer Divitzenschen, then with the Vitzenschen estates to Divitz and Zubehör. This estate complex was in 1616-25 given back to the duke of Pommern. The family Krakevitz still living in Meklenburg.
